Telephone Phobia

OK, so maybe we’re not talking about an actual fear of talking over the phone, but this is a tongue-in-cheek way of describing the reluctance of talking on the phone, and it’s definitely a trend that you should already be aware of if you want your business to continue to thrive.

It’s not that people are averse to using their mobile phones. On the contrary, an increasing number of people are using mobile devices more than ever before. The ‘issue’ is that with the prevalence of smart phones, people are choosing to use their phones in a non-traditional way. People want answers to questions, to book holidays, to set up dating profiles, to share funny jokes with their friends – and they want to do this – now!

According to an article, Millennials, those roughly aged between 22 and 37, particularly don’t like making phone calls. Think especially about the mothers within this age bracket who are trying to book birthday parties for their kids. Well, a large section of your market apparently likes to avoid making calls like the plague, and this is due to two simple things: time and efficiency. Why take time dialing a number, waiting for someone to answer, maybe being put on hold, perhaps having to repeat yourself several times before you can actually make your order, when you can cut down this process to a few clicks of a button without the awkward interaction. Or what’s going to happen if, God-forbid, there are certain times of the day when your business isn’t open, such as late at night? Next.

So, what does this mean for your business? It means that people are impatient, and if you want to stay on top of your competition, then you have to stop resisting change. Don’t stick your head in the sand and ignore what’s happening around you. A simple ‘Book Now’ button could help to make all the difference.
